The Siskiyou’s mission is to generate high-quality journalism in an unbiased manner that delivers newsworthy, entertaining, and stimulating content to students, staff, and faculty at SOU.
Like journalists all across the world, The Siskiyou is adapting to the political, environmental and social challenges around us, and carrying on its mission of covering important stories and representing student concerns.
Working remotely now, and in-person when campus fully reopens, Siskiyou journalists have the opportunity to pitch and write stories, contribute visuals, and work with a tight team of editors to produce real journalism for real audiences.
Our student team of writers, editors, and a social media manager publishes online once a week. SOU students who write for The Siskiyou gain experience in journalism and reporting by attending weekly staff meetings, conducting interviews, and writing pieces that inform, educate and entertain the student body and surrounding community.
Recent SOU graduates who have worked for The Siskiyou have gone on to paid internships and professional positions at news organizations up and down the West Coast, including Marketplace Morning Report, KOBI Channel 5, the Klamath Falls Herald and News, the Daily Astorian, the Paradise Post, the Sierra Sun News, and more.
