Connect with storytellers at SOU’s inaugural presentation of The Shaman on Nov. 2.

Organized by Assistant Professor of Digital Cinema Vaun Monroe, The Shaman is a free multicultural storytelling showcase open to anyone in the SOU community. Students are encouraged to come, listen, and share their personal stories.

The inspiration for this event comes from Monroe’s classroom, where he noticed his students bonding over the storytelling techniques they learned while sharing personal stories. Monroe hopes to foster an environment where students can have fun while listening and learning from each other.

The Shaman will also be filmed and used to create a video viewbook promoting SOU to traditionally underserved students. Footage will only be used with express permission, and students are free to revoke it at any time.

The event will take place on November 2 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm in the Digital Media Center (DMC). If you’re interested in signing up, you can email monroev@sou.edu to reserve your spot. Please limit stories to 4–6 minutes. Light refreshments will be served!
