SPRING SEMINAR: Photography, Theatre & Ethics

CMC Course Explores Photojournalism via Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Production of “unseen” by Mona Mansour

In partnership with Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Associate Professor Erik Palmer will teach COMM399 — Photography, Theatre & Ethics in the second five weeks of Southern Oregon University’s Spring 2022 term.

In the course, students explore questions of witnessing, memory and ethics suggested by OSF’s Spring production of “unseen” by Mona Mansour.

The play depicts a photojournalist’s confrontation with the violence she documents in Syria, and the personal and political frame of her photographic practice.

In addition to attending a performance of “unseen,” students will encounter other cinematic and scholarly works related to international photojournalism and conflict photography, and will undertake a critical study of photographs and photographers in that genre.
