Change Management and Communications Intern

$20.22 to $24.30 Hourly
Our Office of Organizational Excellence is seeking a six-month intern to start in May or June. Work will be a mix of part-time and full-time work depending on the intern’s availability. In this role, you will support various cultural and process changes while working with executive managers, key leaders, and employees throughout Oregon. You will be developing change management and communications plans that meet the needs of various audiences. We are seeking someone with knowledge of change management, communications experience, excellent written/verbal communication skills and advanced-level computer skills.
What we need:
We will accept applications from current college students who are within at least their sophomore year at time of application. Recent college graduates are also welcome to apply (those who have graduated within the past two years). Any major is acceptable.

Community Organizing Internship for Youth Leaders
Rogue Climate and the Rogue Action Center
Rogue Climate and the Rogue Action Center are excited to offer the Spring 2021 Community Organizing Internship for Youth Leaders!
Apply here by March 31st if you are interested in learning more about organizing and making change in your community and are between the ages of 14–35. The virtual internship spans eight weeks between April 12 and June 5 and stipends will be provided.
Participants will develop their leadership and community organizing skills by attending weekly trainings and engaging in local climate and social justice campaigns. Trainings will include Intro to Organizing, Building a Campaign, Power, Privilege and Oppression, Climate Change and Migration, and more.
Throughout the internship, youth will get hands-on experience with organizing by working on a campaign or project with a mentor from the Rogue Action Center or Rogue Climate. Projects may include taking action for Almeda fire relief mutual-aid, affordable housing, and energy justice.
This years internship will also overlap with the Powershift Convergence Conference, where thousands of youth from across the nation will come together to learn about climate justice and take action.

Serving rural Oregon for over 27 years, University of Oregon’s Resource Assistance for Rural Environments (RARE) AmeriCorps Program builds the capacity of rural communities to improve their economic, social, and environmental conditions, through the assistance of trained graduate-level members who live and work in communities for 11 months. Our members assist communities and agencies in the development and implementation of plans for achieving a sustainable natural resource base and improving rural economic conditions while gaining community building and leadership skills.
RARE AmeriCorps projects typically fall into three broad categories:
Community and Economic Development
- Coordinating the development of a downtown master plan or parks and recreation master plan
- Creating regional economic post-COVID recovery plans
- Engaging a community in creative placemaking and installing murals
Environmental and Sustainability Planning
- Coordinating an array of watershed enhancement projects
- Designing a citizen involvement program for a watershed council
- Creating a rural solar outreach strategy
- Creation of community food assessments and tribal food sovereignty assessments
- Enhancement of local farmers’ markets and food related business activities
- Development of a regional agritourism food trail

Community Outreach- LIL Internship Opportunity Development
- This position sets up the next term’s internship opportunities. The student who performed this role in the fall was hired as a result of her networking.

Zoom Out Mycology
- Production Assistant: Work independently and in a team setting at the farm to produce fungi products.
- Timeliness + cleanliness are a must, willingness to learn, prioritizing safety and production in an indoor farm and laboratory environment.
- 10–12 hours total = 2 x 5–6 hour days
Commercial Kitchen Project
- Intern will help with the formation of this project, which will serve as an incubator for new local food businesses and a working kitchen that will supply both the Ashland Emergency Food Bank and Rogue Food Unites
- Financial Modeling, Program Development, Start Up/Incubator curriculum development
Almeda Recovery Team w/ Stephen Sloan
- This would be an assistant to ART, which is the working name of what was the Southern Oregon Wild Fire Emergency Response Team led by Alex Campbell of the state governor’s office, coordinating efforts across all sectors of the recovery
- Organizing, planning, community outreach, research & data gathering
Market St. CBD — Meredith Page
- Hemp R&D and education
- She would like an intern to write two blogs a week related to her local company’s CBD products. Meredith is very interested in helping promote the hemp industry in the Rogue Valley. This could very well extend longer term and become a job.
- SEO, Google analytics, etc.
Clothing Cooperative
- The Clothing Co-op aims to pool excess and discarded clothing as a resource rather than trash and divert this resource from landfills to reduce our collective carbon footprint.
- Daily duties would include research into clothing manufacturing in the US
- Admin assistant role to the founder as we develop the sew-house contracts with other brands.
- Responding to website inquires.
- Mailing out purchases from store.
- Small amount of social media ad management for our virtual mending workshops.
- Sorting through clothing inventory as we receive the occasional donations.
- Marketing of reclaimed and sustainable wood products
Zone Captains
- Bilingual Assistant to the Program Coordinator
- Providing outreach, administrative support, meeting facilitation, and translation
- Zone Captains are paid community representatives who reach out to the people in their fire-affected zone and bring the needs and desires to the elected officials of their area. In turn, Zone Captains also distribute information and resources to the people in their zones.

SOEquity — Kayla
Project is funded through the Fair Housing Council, and the goal is to assess the scope of housing availability in the valley. This project is data driven, involving research into discrimination, housing policy, and the evaluation and rating of apartment complexes.
Rogue Climate/Rogue Action — Jordan
This is an 8-week program designed by Rogue Action Center, from April 12th through June 5th

- Do community outreach and train volunteers and leaders to be part of ongoing campaigns.
- Skills: develop community organizing skills through canvassing, social media management, phone banking, recruitment, leadership development, and meeting facilitation.
- Plan and execute action-oriented events and activities that draw in new supporters.
- Skills: effectively recruit and retain people power, hone organizational and planning skills and refine data management skills.
- Engage leaders of local organizations and community groups to educate and activate their members on statewide climate policy.
- Skills: networking, developing communications skills such as writing a public email, and developing campaign materials.
- Connect our communities with elected local and state representatives to act on our behalf.
- Skills: develop campaign skills such as lobbying and policy-tracking.
