This PEAK student position designs and executes in-person and online projects to help inform and engage students in Communication courses at Southern Oregon University. This position will be remote during Fall 2020, but might transition to in-person duties in Winter 2021 or Spring 2021, depending on COVID-19 conditions and continuing evolution in campus crisis response.
2019 graduate Lindsey Wishengrad was our last Community Manager, and she has since landed a full-time position as an Event Marketing Specialist with Techtronic Industries. Now based in Clackamas, she has gotten her career going despite the COVID-19 crisis by promoting customer engagement using skills she gained at SOU.
“By building effective partnerships across campus, I involved other departments in the Comm Program’s events, exercising skills that I didn’t realize at the time would be so crucial in my role today,” Wishengrad said. “Working in sales and marketing events requires a certain level of creative problem solving and thinking on your toes. Time management, event planning, community outreach and campus networking were all aspects I had to learn. ”
Remote/online activities for this position will entail writing, sourcing appropriate images, posting, and monitoring audience analytics for a variety of communication channels. These channels will include blogs, social media, newsletters, online events, and other content.
Once we are able to fully return to campus, this position will also entail in-person activities including managing the front desk for the Communication Program, directing students in how to declare the Communication major and find an academic advisor, organizing events such as the Comm Expo and spring Awards and Scholarships Gala, maintaining signs and posters, tending the Communication office, and providing other service to Communication faculty (such as photocopying, flyering, social media posting, basic photography, etc.) as needed.
PEAK positions are premium campus jobs funded by SOU, and intended to help students get ready for the professional job market after graduation.
