Britt Hall Renovation Continues with Reopening of Student Lounge

--

As the multi-stage rejuvenation of the Communication, Media & Cinema Program’s home turf continues, students now have the option to study, meet and relax in Britt Hall’s new student lounge.

Located adjacent to the program’s faculty offices, the lounge includes an open, safe and accessible environment to promote student learning and community.

Digital Cinema instructor Tom Stagg led a session of his screenwriting course in the CMC Program’s new student lounge this term.

“After a long period of mostly remote instruction, our faculty miss having students around, and we know it can be hard for our students to find quiet and comfortable spaces to work,” said Program Chair Andrew Gay. “Our new lounge is out of the way in a low-traffic corridor, so we hope our students will take advantage of all the open space.”

Britt Hall was closed for nearly two years for a seismic upgrade, but CMC Program faculty returned to the building in Fall, 2021, and other improvements to the building continue.

Students can use the lounge to study, work on group projects, or just relax between classes and appointments. The lounge is also very close to CMC faculty offices, providing convenient access to program faculty for office hours and advising.

“It is also a space where students can come to study and have a place to feel safe and secure,” said Comm instructor Erica Knotts. “I hope that the space will draw in more students and create a community.”
